Dancing Wave

Family-run regeneration business Peel L&P has partnered up with Scotland-based artist collective – Healy Arts, to create and impactful piece of community art which is the longest outdoor mural in Glasgow. The project is funded by Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government via the Glasgow River Activation Programme.

Stretching nearly 1,000 metres, ‘Dancing Wave’ will celebrate The Rive Clyde whilst combining Glasgow’s rich history of craft heritage with 21st Centuary technology and design.

As Scotland’s most famous and important river, The River Clyde enabled Glasgow to become a major industrial city and at one point the world’s largest shipbuilding center. With the vision to become a major retail, leisure and tourism destination on the Clyde, Glasgow Waters will complement, support and revive the surrounding area. The enormous new mural will culturally connect the different neighbourhoods and future developments with Glasgow Waters, including Yorkhill Quay, Beith Street and site of the future Therme Scotland

  • With this project we aim to stimulate interest and engagement with the River. It will showcase the work of local artists and residents that have taken part in workshops in the area.
  • We are brining activity to the river and animating the waterfront through temporary use. This will be achieved by bringing the public to view and participate in creating this ephemeral public artwork.
  • We are encouraging greater use of the River Corridor at different times of the day and are engaging with local communities in the River Corridor and wider GLasgow City.
  • This has been achieved by working within the Annexe to deliver workshops and working with artists and existing art and craft groups.
  • The intention is to enhance the city’s relationship with the River and improve access by local and wider communities. This is being achieved by linking with existing groups and engaging with the community, particular at the Annexe.
  • We are supporting a healthy environment along the River through an enhanced natural environment. By highlighting the river in the high-traffic area of Castlebank it will remind passers-by that the river is close by.
